Maple Syrup Season in Vermont Is the Sweetest Time of Year

Vermont is known for its beautiful fall foliage, delectable cheddar cheese, and excellent skiing opportunities. Above all, the state’s most famous attraction is authentic Vermont maple syrup. Vermont is the largest producer of maple syrup in the United States, and it is a popular part of Vermont culture. If you’re planning a trip to Vermont during the spring, you’re in luck! March is the best time to experience maple syrup season in Vermont. Sugaring season starts in late February and continues through early April. Here Are 4 Ways to Celebrate Maple Syrup Season in Vermont

1. Attend the Vermont Maple Open House Weekend

During this Vermont maple syrup festival, many of the sugarhouses open their doors to the public. Maple Open House Weekend is an unforgettable experience for the senses! Smell the sap boil, watch the makers hard at work, and taste some sticky sweet syrup. Some of the most popular maple syrup-themed treats include sugar-on-snow, maple cocktails, and maple fennel sausage pizza.

This festival takes place every March, and it is one of our favorite Southern Vermont events of the year!

2. Visit the Sugar Shack

The Sugar Shack makes pure Vermont maple syrup just minutes down the road from your room at the Arlington Inn. The shop offers genuine, hand-picked products including various pies, maple frosted sugar cookies, and cider donuts. The Sugar Shack is also home to its excellent Norman Rockwell exhibition, so be sure to leave time to explore it during your visit!

3. Take Part in the Vermont Maple Festival

We love the Vermont Maple Festival! This food and arts celebration is held for three days every April. Participate in a variety of activities, from a pancake breakfast to a parade to an antiques show. Don’t miss the sugarhouse tours or Sap Run, an 8.5-mile road race for ages 12 and up. Our favorite part of the festival is the annual crowning of the Maple King and Maple Queen, a scholarship given to individuals with exceptional sugaring knowledge.

4. Check out a Southern Vermont Farmers Market

Everything you’ll find at a Southern Vermont Farmers Market is fresh and grown with love by some of the most talented farmers in New England. Many of the vendors have a direct hand in growing and creating the products that are for sale. Crisp, garden fresh produce is just the beginning of what you’ll find at the Farmers Markets. Handcrafted jewelry, dairy products, and, of course, Vermont maple syrup, are a few of our favorite things to shop for.
