Where Are the 3 Best Southern Vermont Gardens?
These stunning gardens will enchant you on your next Southern Vermont adventure.
1. The Arlington Inn
The Arlington Inn’s picture-perfect English gardens are one of our favorite aspects of the property. Enjoy sunny perennial beds, hydrangea, and grape vines. Take a seat in our gazebo in the center of the garden and relax in nature.
The English gardens are a serene backdrop for a Vermont wedding. Get married to the one you love under our wedding arbor decorated with seasonal flowers on a delightful spring or summer day. The Arlington Inn’s gardens are a private and romantic spot to tie the knot.
Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home, is one of the top historic attractions in this part of the state. The 20th century home was named after the property’s breathtaking views of the Green Mountains, Taconic Mountains, and Battenkill River. The 412-acre estate is comprised of 14 historic buildings and a Georgian Revival mansion.
The estate boasts a few gardens for guests to tour. Abraham Lincoln’s granddaughter, Jessie Lincoln, designed the iconic formal garden for her mother in the early 1900s. Visitors from across the country come to see over 1,000 fragrant peony blossoms bloom here every spring. The Cutting and Kitchen Gardens and Apple Tree Allee are two more can’t-miss garden areas at Hildene.
3. Park-McCullough House
The Park-McCullough House, built in 1864-5, is one of the most well preserved Victorian mansions in New England. The gorgeous home features a rich history, magnificent architecture, and lovely gardens for tourists to enjoy.
One of the best parts of the house is the expertly landscaped gardens. Step back in time and experience pure beauty and elegance at the Park-McCullough property. Every season, the gardens host romantic weddings and a celebratory Garden Gala.
Tree and Plant Tours are available for those who are interested in learning about the estate’s natural landscape. The house and grounds are open to the public from May through October.
