What You Need to Know About the Vermont Country Store
Visiting the Vermont Country Store is one of our favorite things to do in Southern Vermont. Read on to discover what treasures lie inside!
History of the Store
The Vermont Country Store is, hands down, the most quintessential general store in the United States. The store opened in 1945, but it existed solely as a mail order catalog at first. When the business prospered, their first brick and mortar store opened in Weston, VT, in 1946. The storefront in Weston was the first restored general store in the country.
Products for Sale
Penny candy, housewares, clothing, beauty products, and more. If you can imagine it, the Vermont Country Store probably sells it! While you can still shop from the mail-order catalog, we prefer taking a trip to one of the two brick and mortar locations. Get lost in the displays of childhood toys, novelty food items, and maple-themed goodies. You can easily spend hours here reliving America’s past.
In addition, the two locations offer public events you won’t want to miss. From cheese tastings to book signings, there’s a reason everyone will want to visit the country store.
Hours & Locations
The Vermont Country store has two locations. The first and most well-known location is in Weston, VT. View directions from the Arlington Inn and set off on the 30-mile scenic drive through the Green Mountain National Forest. Or, if you’re traveling on Interstate 91, make a pit stop at the store’s Rockingham, VT, location. The Weston location is open every day from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., and the Rockingham shop is open every day from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Are you ready to journey into the past at our favorite country store?
